La'Ventus Quartet

Alyssa Hoffert, soprano saxophone, Lauren Wasynczuk, alto saxophone, Ben Carraher, tenor saxophone, Li-Chun Hsiao, baritone saxophone.

We are La'Ventus Quartet, a nationally-recognized chamber ensemble who recently took third place in the 2014 American Prize in Chamber Music Performance. Advocates of new chamber music for saxophone, we spent most of the last year partnering with many esteemed composers to premiere a variety of original works across the country.

Our next major project in collaborating with other great musicians at the highest level and advancing our canon of repertoire is to commission a highly-acclaimed composer who has yet to write specifically for this instrumentation - and to present this new work on an international stage.

"Black Paintings"

World-renown Belgian composer, staunch force in the saxophone world, and friend, Piet Swerts, has agreed to write and have us premiere his first original saxophone quartet, "Black Paintings" at the 2015 XVII World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg, France. The piece will be approximately 8-10 minutes in duration, and we plan to record it very soon after the premiere. (Despite his multitude of significant contributions to the saxophone solo repertoire, this is indeed his first work for quartet that did not originate from an arrangement of a solo piece.)

We Need Your Help!

As four individuals who are frequently traveling and performing, travel costs are often a major issue and an unfortunate barrier to performing. After determining our operating budget, supplemented through a variety of other performances and recent prize winnings, we still need to raise a total of $9000 to commission and premiere the piece. The breakdown is:

  • $5000 for the commission
  • $4000 for travel assistance to Strasbourg, France to premiere the piece at the 17th World Saxophone Congress in July, 2015 ($1000 for each of us to offset the airfare/hotel/travel costs)

In addition to helping us make this project possible, your donation will be a step towards funding future projects from grants through our fiscal sponsor (Fractured Atlas) that require us to fundraise an initial $1000 before we can apply for their aid.

Absolutely any donation will help! Please spread the word, and as always, thank you for your support!

Please leave your name and contact info after you donate to our project for us to be able to reach you in the future. Thank you.
