The Film
"Worth" is an independent short narrative that explores the universal themes of guilt, fear, blame and ultimately, reconciliation.
As human beings, we tend to have a fear of reconciliation because it easier to avoid confrontation than it is to be open and honest, and display vulnerability. Due to this avoidance to reconcile, our relationships can be compromised, thus damaging our ability to live a meaningful life.
This film explores the character’s need to reconcile both his relationship with his wife and with his past – and in this case, his determined avoidance to do so. And unless reconciliation is achieved, the character will continue to live an isolated, false, and not fully realized existence.
And to make the need to overcome his feelings of fear, guilt and blame in order to reconcile with his wife more pressing, this film takes place on the last day of earth.
Synopsis:
A man that has been experiencing a personal and emotional disconnect from his wife since the death of their young son because of their differences in dealing with grief, must reconcile these differences on the last day of earth. Is he willing to address his fear, guilt and resentment in order to be with the woman that he loves, or will he choose to die alone?
Why am I making it?
Aside from my desire to share this story with an audience, I'm making the film for three reasons:
- To enter into the various film festivals in North America and around the world.
- To produce a professional quality film that I can use as my "calling card" into the entertainment industry.
- To fulfill my Thesis requirements to qualify for MFA from graduate school.
I'll use the culmination of my graduate school training to obtain my diploma and make a professional quality film for distribution.
