Short Summary

The remote island of Leros in the Mediterranean Sea - widely unknown but famous for the devastating 52 day "Battle of Leros in WW2 will be the stage for a breathtaking diving- and documentation project  in spring 2014. A small group of divers around Achim R. Schlöffel will travel to the island to dive explore and document some of the still untoouched deep wrecks around the Island. The team holds knowledge of some deep wrecks in depths between 80 and 140 msw / 260-460 ft) never dived, or otherwise explored, one being a German U-Boat most probably. The team has to finance all of its expenses by itself including airfares, mixed gases, boat, etc.
The goal is to explore, identify and  document the wrecks and share the gained knowledge with the public, museums, survivors.

Achim R. Schlöffel is a renown diver, explorer, videographer and writer. He dives since 1978 and has done more then 8000 dives, most of them deep mixed gas wreck dives all over the world. In June 2012 he got again international attention when he was the fist human to dive solo and nonstop through the British channel in 11 hours from England to France. Achim Schlöffel is also the founder and president of the technical diving organisation "InnerSpace Explorers" (www.is-expl.com

What We Need & What You Get

A team of 8 will fly to the island in April and do the dives to document the wrecks. All of this is self financed. Air fares, equipment shipping, mixed gases, boat rental, fuel - the list of expenses is long.

The film- and photo material will be published worldwide through a variety of channels. People contributing will get a personalized DVD with all the material including "behind the scenes", all pictures, a contributor certificate and a team member T-Shirt.

The Impact

The Battle of Leros was one of the most brutal and senseless battles in WW2 but is widely unknown or forgotten. Till today the people of Leros live with the scars of their history every day - the dark side of their history can be seen till today all over the island.

The documentation will rise some awareness of these events and at the same time uncover some of the secrets of WW2 still remaining a mystery till today.
