It must be onerous to be GOD. You can be in awe of your creations, but must despair at their constant flux and destruction.

I thought very little of consequences when I created my Second Life avatar, officialmichaelgreenv6.0, for my #secondlife365 project where I would live in the virtual world of Second Life for the entire year of 2015 and then unplug on New Years Eve, December 31st 2015.

Michael Green, @Xhurch

As I began to learn my way through the SL matrix, something unexpected happened… I began to identify with my avatar. I saw officialmichaelgreenv6.0 as an extension of my real self with similar behaviors, principles, and objectives. I could close my eyes and have actual Second Life memories.

It is far more difficult to come to terms with the fate of my character, officialmichaelgreenv6, than expected. Officialmichaelgreenv6 is my most grand creation! And while I can’t help the fact that an adjunct of myself will perish on December 31, 2015, I will make sure that my avatar will remain defiant against his own mortality right until the final New Year’s countdown , living to his fullest potential, and  ensuring that when he expires, he can go with dignity and poise in the company of his Second Life friends and loved ones.

Help me give officialmichaelgreenv6 one final day to sum up his experience in Second Life, and an ethereal ceremony to usher him toward the great beyond. The real life venue of Xhurch in Portland, Oregon has pledged its space and technical resources to this end and it just so happens to be the perfect location for this sacrosanct virtual event.

ABOUT XHURCH & XHURCH SL

Xhurch (pronounced: church) is an arts venue and residence located in a former church in Northeast Portland, OR. Xhurch started as a workspace and gathering spot for friends, artists, and collaborators, and soon blossomed into a unique venue for performance, art-making, and experiments in adaptive living. Since 2010 the space has hosted a number of resident artists, musicians, and creative practitioners hailing from Portland, Maine to Paris, France, and continues to host regular art and music happenings.

More recently, Xhurch has become a node in Portland’s burgeoning VR community, hosting weekly meet ups wherein virtual reality and virtual worlds are explored.

Lightning Fountain, @Xhurch

Let’s pay our final respects to officialmichaelgreenv6 and celebrate his second life on New Years Eve 2015 in both SL/RL! And afterwards give him a proper burial according to his dying wishes… that he be buried at Xhurch SL.

Second Life requires monthly rent from their own currency, the “Linden”, to be able to build on land. I need your help to pay for 9 months of rent, along with building materials and person hours, to help construct Xhurch in SL in time for the final ceremony & funeral procession. Xhurch will remain afterwords as a place for community, vibes and healing.

3-D animator Michelle McKay, and Xhurch founder Matthew Henderson, conducting Second Life experiments

I plan to construct Xhurch SL with founder Matthew Henderson and my partner Michelle McKay, whom all are 3~D modelers. My #secondlife365 project depends on this Xhurch to be built in Second Life for its finale. We want to share a new perspective with the Second Life community, and continue to explore new boundaries including live media events which bridge the physical and the virtual. This is the way officialmichaelgreenv6 has wished it. Help officialmichaelgreenv6.0’s soul, lord have mercy on us all.
