My Story
My name is Yael Horowitz, I am a student at Wesleyan University. I am a double major in Film and African American Studies and this coming year, I am planning on completing two theses and graduating. It has been my dream for a long time to be a film maker. I am trying to raise money to cover production costs for my film thesis. I work three jobs and will be financing the film independently.
What will the money go towards?
Making a film can be expensive, some of the costs are:
- Location fees.
- Insurance for location, actors and equipment.
- Fees for renting lenses ($400 for 14 days).
- Sound mixing ($450).
- Gas and transportation for crew and actors.
- Food for the actors and crew.
The Impact
As a woman entering the film industry, I will be encountering many challenges. I feel it is very important for women's voices, especially women who care about intersectional social justice, to be present as producers of culture and images. My film will tell the story of an unlikely pairing of a babysitter and the child he's babysitting growing up in a time of #BlackLivesMatter. It will deal with themes of youth empowerment, systemic racism, and the proliferation of violent images.
