Yaya is a collection of vignettes which tells the story of the relationship between a grandson and his grandmother, and how they stay connected and show love for each other in spite of there being a continent between them.
Funds for insurance for not only our gear but for locations so that the kind folks allowing us in their spaces can sleep well at night that their properties are safe.
Food and catering for our lovely cast and crew. Working on independent films where we unfortunately can’t pay means that assuring everyone is well fed is how we thank the crew for their passion and dedicated hard work.
Locations, which as young/student filmmakers is a very daunting task to do in this city. If you cannot donate monetarily at this time, but have a location that you would be willing to offer us - reach out to our location manager Talen Bently-Michaud at: talen@bentleymichaud.ca
Developing film can be costly and sometimes quite daunting but in partnership with an incredible Director of Photography, Rachel Chen and camera team well versed in shooting on film we will utilize the medium to our advantage and create something innovative within an almost two century year old tradition.
Making art in every medium has its challenges, but film in particular is one that is a very difficult thing to do right now. It is even harder for young artists once they leave the mentorship of school. Having the opportunity to tell this story independently and have our voices heard, means more than you can ever know. Yaya is a story about intergenerational relationships across borders, it is a story about the human experience and one everyone can get behind.
Yaya has an amazing creative crew led by Capilano University film grad, writer/director, Seby Cerani, produced by local indie film maven Malka Martz-Oberlander, shot by Vancouver renowned director of photography, Rachel Chen and designed by the beloved production designer, Amanda Acquaah. In addition to many others who represent the dedicated, passionate, creatives that build up Vancouver's independent film industry.
