Young Choreographers Project provides young dance students (ages 13 - 18 years old) with access to full self-expression through choreography and movement. Students experience a new relationship with dance and learn how to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas through dance and movement.
We just started our 2016 program and are offering this unique experience to 12 new students. We need to raise money to cover the cost for one-on-one mentoring for each of our students, costumes, lighting, and our performance venue.
Our Mentors are what make this program so unique. Each student gets the opportunity to be mentored by a professional choreographer and/or dancer who is currently pursuing dance and choreography as a career. Students are provided with an opportunity to work one-on-one with their mentors and learn valuable skills that support them through the process of creating their very own dance pieces. Without our mentors, this program would not be possible.
Professional choreographers and dancers are the lowest paid in the entertainment industry. YCPLA.org is committed to providing income to the mentors we work with. That's why we need your support. A majority of our budget goes towards stipends for our Mentors.
Our final showcase is what makes this experience so special. After working one-on-one with their mentors, our students will have created an original dance piece that they can share with their family and friends. Having their pieces performed on stage with lights, music and costumes is an out-of-this-world experience for them. It's an opportunity for them to marvel at what they were able to accomplish and to celebrate their success after working so hard for several weeks. The final showcase is their finish line!
