It - the book
Content
The german book is 224 pages strong in full colour. The first third offers a very interesting description of the history and development of horses with focus on the riding culture. The second part describes the important decisions a rider has to make in the modern days. Can a riding style that was popular 250 years ago be transported to the present day? How would the grandmasters of historical horsemanship such as Antoine de Pluvinel or Francois Robichon de la Guérinière see the low-deep-round practice? Is equestrian sport still in keeping with the times and animal welfare? The director of the Princely Riding School in Bückeburg, Christin Krischke, answers these and many other interesting questions with anecdotal expertise and dispels prejudices and dusty conventions.
Her plea for the pleasure rider: (The solution to our problems lies in history)
To be allowed to ride a horse that was broken in late and trained directly in collection is pretty much the most uplifting feeling you can experience in the saddle. We are talking about a horse that is in full possession of its powers and that makes them available to the rider and masters tasks in complete cooperation. A horse that takes responsibility for its actions and enjoys giving presents to the rider. A horse that one prefers to ride all alone, without spectators.

Me - the author
Christin Krischke was born in 1966 in Berlin in modest circumstances and grew up in a surrounding with only city pigeons, neighboring cats, Sielmann's animal films and a twelve-volume Brehm's animal atlas. During her A-levels she earned some money and started western riding in the north of Berlin, which led her to the Eagle Free Ranch in the district of Nienburg near Hanover in 1989, where she met her future husband Wolfgang Krischke, the European Junior Cutting Champion at that time. Within a year, the young couple changed their entire lives and moved away from competition-driven Western sports towards an alternative art of riding, as the first joint venture was called in 1990. By chance they came across Berber horses during a trip to France, which inspired them with their characteristics and awakened their interest in history. To this day Christin Krischke is an international judge for Berber horses and works for the preservation of this rare breed. From the special power of the Krischkes to reposition and redefine themselves again and again, many projects and initiatives were developed in the following years, which made historical equestrianism come alive and were performed all over Europe, as well as the living horse museum, a long-cherished dream, which came true in Bückeburg at the beginning of 2004. Christin Krischke is the voice of the Princely Riding School, as a presenter in the demonstrations and seminars, or as a speaker and correspondent outside the school, she brings the knowledge gained from 25 years of historical research and experimental archaeology in the saddle and the experience of 11 years of riding at the Riding School into the world of equestrianism.
