Damani Phillips: Saxophonist, Educator and Recording Artist
Damani is a native of Pontiac, MI, where he began playing at the age of 10. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Jazz and African-American Studies at the University of Iowa. He has earned Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from DePaul University and The University of KY in classical saxophone; and a second M. M. degree in Jazz Studies from Wayne State University . Phillips completed the DMA degree in Jazz Studies at CU Boulder; becoming one of the first African-American to do so.
