<p>Gordon Young is a San Francisco-based journalist whose work has appeared in <em>The New York Times</em>, <em>Slate</em>, Wasington <em>City Paper</em>, and <em>Utne Reader</em>. He is the author of <em>Teardown: Memoir of a Vanishing City</em>, which chronicles his attempts to buy a house in his hometown of Flint, Michigan, the most dangerous city in America. <em>Teardown</em> was a Michigan Notable Book for 2014 and a finalist for the Northern California Book Award .</p>
