Seriously Silly Theater of the Absurd To HIghlight The Absurdity of Reality
<p>Searing wit, unwavering courage and unflappable honesty characterize Holder’s work –satirist, educator, writer and activist. Her debut solo-show SITCHAASSDOWN was deemed “21 perfect-pitch snapshots of the black experience by a strong character actor” by NY Magazine, and subsequent shows received numerous awards including Franklin Furnace, Puffin Foundation and a residency at Bard College’s Institute for Media, Culture and Difference.</p> <p>As Founder of the SITCHAASSDOWN FOCUS GROUP TOUR, she infuses her praxis into solos and ensembles for venues including Brooklyn Museum, La Mama ETC and Harlem Stage. Highly desired to engage audiences while exploring what she refers to as “intersections of (in)justice”, Holder was commissioned <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">to</span> create works for William Pope L., Sanford Biggers, Beth Coleman and Imagining America.</p> <p>In 2007, CUNY’s Colin Powell Center for Policy Study funded her research on transforming urban classrooms into love-for-learning labs. In 2008, PBS highlighted her innovative teaching to promote their Teaching and Learning Conference. In 2010 she received an NEH Fellowship to research Zora Neale-Hurston.</p> <p>Media appearances include on CNN, BBC, and ABC about Occupy Wall Street’s movement’s goals/actions. However, she’s most proud of her 5<sup>th</sup> grade students’ anti-gentrification posters exhibited at NYU and poems on race published in an anthology. </p>
