Andy Teirstein writes music inspired by the rich and diverse folk roots of modern culture. A student of Henry Brant and Leonard Bernstein, his compositions have been described by The New York Times and The Village Voice as "magical," "ingenious," and "superbly crafted." His CD, Open Crossings, on Naxos of America, contains recordings of his work by the Cassatt Quartet, the Cygnus Ensemble, and the Kiev Philharmonic Orchestra. He is currently an Associate Arts Professor at New York University.
