Cancer Survivor Helps Kids with Cancer

In 1982, before the wave of social media support sites, I was a teenage cheerleader going through cancer. It was a lonely time. Hours spent in the hospital room alone wondering if anyone outside my family even cared about what I was going through. No fundraisers to help my family with hotel and travel expenses to my cancer treatment hospital. No Tweets or Facebook prayer circles to help out. No national media interested in the plight and determination of a young girl fighting to save her leg...her life. Just me and my family.

Thirty years later, I am STILL cancer free and walk without a limp. And I need to pay it forward. I want to help other kids who are stuck in hospital beds wondering if anyone else cares about their struggles. I need to encourage them to stay positive, focused, and persevere. You can overcome anything...just like me! And that's why I'm starting the RADIATE FOUNDATION.

===============================================

Marley Gibson is a young adult, contemporary romance, and non-fiction author.
