Save my Dream

My name is John and I'm trying to keep my dream of farming on my father’s farm alive. Our family farm is in jeopardy after a severe drought that lasted for more than two and a half months this summer. It has been my dream to live and work on our family’s farm with my father my whole life. I graduated from high school this past spring and could start my dream full time. I got to help put in all the crops this year and work most of the land, with hopes of a good harvest. I postponed my colon surgery which would keep me in the hospital for several months because without this surgery I would be sure to have colon cancer within five years, but I postponed it to make sure the crops were planted and could be harvested this year.

Unfortunately that will not be the case, with the severe drought we had this year we may not have much to harvest at all, or to feed our livestock for the winter. I have waited my whole life to be able to work side by side with my father and be the third generation to work our farm now that is all in jeopardy. I watched my grandfather and my father work very hard for years doing whatever had to be done to keep the farm going. My grandfather passed away in 2004 and the farming was left up to my father and his siblings. Now that I am old enough to help and be there full time and live my dream of farming with my father, there is a chance it all could be lost. All I want to do is farm with my father, and with all that has happen this year I could lose my dream, so please help me if you can. This land that our family is farming on has been in our family for over a hundred years and it kills me to think of losing it after all the hard work my grandparents and there children have done to keep it going all this time, so please if you can help me keep my dream alive and save our rural Wisconsin farm and my dream it would mean the world to me.
