Hello! My name is Sabrina Bodden. I am an Alignment Yoga Instructor and Licensed Massage Therapist in Madison, WI. I found my calling to the healing arts after becoming disabled in my early 20s due to severe scoliosis and malnourishment. There were months when I didn't leave home more than a couple times a week because the pain of putting clothing on was too much to bear. At one point I needed a caregiver to come help with my daily needs.

When I finally went back to school with the generous assistance of the Wisconsin Department of Vocational Rehabilitiation, I needed to use a walker to get around and carry things. The emotional pain of living with this disability, and watching my peers carry on and take so much for granted, compoudned my pain and caused depression and anxiety. The fear of never getting better, and thinking I'd have to suffer that way for the rest of my days, made me want to take my own life more than a few times.

Though I was diagnosed with over twenty different diseases and disorders, and told by many doctors that I would never get better, I refused the surgeries and drugs they pushed on me, and looked for other options. I was too young to give up and accept a life of suffering.

I was blessed with the kindness of some healers who were willing to negotiate pricing because I was in such a desperate state. I found my path of healing through chiropractic care, acupuncture, massage, alignment yoga, and a mindful and balanced diet.

Once I was functional again, I pursued an education in the human body, first through therapeutic massage, and then in Alignment Yoga. I added Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, and Physics into my curriculum for fun. Understanding the form and function of the most magnificent machine we know of, the human body, became a passion of mine. Through this education, I found the ability to speak the language of anatomy, and began to vocalize and analyze key signals my body was giving me. I began to heal.

I was lucky to find many guides along the way that helped me launch my own massage and yoga pracitce, but not before I found out the hard way how poor the job market is for Massage Therapists and Yoga Instructors. After going into debt to go to school, and paying hundreds of dollars for my licensure and other legal paperwork, I was averaging about $5/hour for my time spent providing the heavy labor of massage, and doing my laundry. I know that most therapists working in this area are getting paid much less than they deserve. I think we should take better care of the people who take such good care of us.

I'm deeply inspired to pay-forward the blessings I've had, and the generous giving of many care providers and educators along my path. It's my honor to continue on this path of helping others find healing in their bodies and minds.

It is my passion to create a nurturing space for the community, to improve the market for healers, and to provide care for those who are disabled and cannot afford to pay for it.
