Donate to help get Jeremiah to the Individual World Poetry Slam!!!

What would I like you to do?

Most simply, I would like you to take a moment and consider making a donation to my fundraiser.

I have less than three weeks to raise these funds, so if you would, please consider making your donation sooner rather than later. Thank you!

So, what I am doing this fundraiser for?

Well, let me provide you with a short anecdote.

I recently became the Phoenix Individual Poetry Slam Champion. And this offers me the chance to represent the city of Phoenix at the 2012 Individual World Poetry Slam (IWPS).

IWPS is one the world's largest stages for performance poetry. Poets from across the nation will converge on Fayeteville, Arkansas, between October 3 to October 5 and compete for the title of IWPS champ. A platform as far reaching and respected as this has catipulted many poets to the next level of their pursuits as artists.

I have competed on two National Poetry Slam teams, but I have never had the opportunity to compete at IWPS. It has been a dream of mine for over five years now to compete at this level, but I don't have the resources to make this dream a reality all on my own.

So, I need your support.

Where will your money be going?

1. All funds will be going directly to me

2. The funds will cover the cost of

A. A plane ticket to Arkansas from Phoenix

B. A shared hotel room for four nights

C. Registration fee for the event

D. Basic food needs for the four days I will be there

How about a little info on me?

I am a restaurant worker, arts organizer, and poet. My job and life ventures are humble, but I enjoy the principals of serving. I may not make a great deal of money, but I am passionate about what I do.

My life as an artist:

I started writing poetry in college. When I began, I had no idea that I was writing in a style similar to that of "spoken word" poetry. After my first performance at a coffee house reading for a little more than 500 people (talk about an intimidating venue for a first read), I started writing and reading in the greater Los Angeles area on a fairly regular basis. Upon moving to Arizona after college, I was introduced to slam poetry. And about 18 months later, I was hosting and organizing my own slam poetry show. I ran this slam from 2007 to 2009, in which time I was also the Grand Slam Champion in '07, and runner up in '08. I represented Phoenix both years on a team of poets at the National Poetry Slam. As of the summer '09, I took a haitus from slam for about three years. Around March of this year, I returned to the slam that I am now helping to host and organize again in Phoenix. Slam poetry is something that I respect and value a great deal, and as a result, I have felt nothing short of privileged to be able to help develop and give back to my local community of poetry lovers, writers, and performers. I have given a lot over my six years in slam poetry, and the majority of it has offered me some of the greatest satisfaction I could ask for as a artist, performer, community leader, and as a person.
