I am a mathematician by training, and I am also a deacon at Westerly Road Church. I went on a Foundation For Peace missions trip to Haiti with other members of Westerly Road Church in March 2011, and again in March 2012. Among other things, we worked on building a vocational school in the Ganthier region of Haiti. I was struck by the enthusiasm of the locals for the project, who would walk miles to volunteer to work on the school. At the same time, except when missions teams were present, Foundation For Peace typically had insufficient money to pay for labor and materials to keep the construction going. Progress would stall for months due to lack of funding. This has motivated me to try to launch fund-raising campaigns to keep the construction going so that the locals can obtain their much-needed vocational training as soon as possible.
