<p>Dean Walsh is a Sydney-based dance practitioner - choreographer, performer, teacher, workshop facilitator and one of two <strong>Australia Council for the Arts Dance Fellow</strong>. He is also a scuba diver and his dance research reflects aspects of his diving. He is company-in-residence at Macquarie University with potenital for this to be ongoing throughout 2013 and 2014.</p> <p>Dean started dance studies late(ish) at 20. Since graduating in 1991 he has made more than 30 solo works, an inventive large-scale group work and numerous works for universities across Australia. His work has toured nationally and internationally - UK, Japan, Amsterdam and NYC. He has received many Australia Council and ArtsNSW grants including the <strong>Robert Helpman scholarship</strong> in 2002 which led to a two-year engagement with <strong>DV8 Physical Theatre</strong> in London and work with various reputable indie dance artists in Europe and the UK.</p> <p>In 2002 he won the national <strong>Ausdance award for Most Outstanding Performance by a Male Dancer</strong> and was again nominated for his solo Grounded on Air. <br />Dean teaches dance, physical expression and composition for various universities and organisations including Beyond the Square, a performing arts organisation that supports people living with a disability and fosters their artistic growth. </p>
