We Got This: Staying Strong in the Face of EDS

I'm Jessica Covey, and I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. But, I'm not alone. My mom Christine, and my brother Charlie have it too. Despite the chronic pain and fatigue, we weren't doing too bad. That is, until January 2012 when our world came crashing down. Charlie, my active and independent brother started passing out sometimes up to 40 times per day. After a whirlwind of doctors and hospitals, we finally found out that Charlie had Cranio-Cervical Instability, putting pressure on his brainstem, and his life was in danger. What's worse - it was caused by EDS, meaning my mother and I could eventually suffer the same complications.

Thankfully we found an EDS specialist that can do surgery on Charlie to stabilize his spine. He's the only doctor that has given us any hope for Charlie, and we are so greatful!

For now, we're all trying to stay strong in the face of a disorder that makes our bodies weak. Our bodies may break, but our spirit never will!
