I am the author of the memoir, 'The Russian Word for Snow,' as well as the novel, 'Mary, Mrs. A. Lincoln,' which was an LA Times Book Prize Finalist and USA Today's Historical Novel of the Year. My most recent novel, 'A Master Plan for Rescue,' was a San Francisco Chronicle Best Book of 2015. My travel stories have appeared in the New York Times, LA Times, SF Chronicle, Dallas Morning News and the Chicago Tribune. My essays have appeared in Salon, The Rumpus, The Daily Beast, and Coastal Living.
