<p><span class="caps">GARY</span> <span class="caps">HAWES</span> is an Award-winning independent filmmaker based out of Vancouver. After graduating from the Film program at the Vancouver Film School in 1999, Gary joined the <span class="caps">DGC</span> where he worked as an Assistant Director on a variety of film projects including ‘X-Men 2’, ‘Fantastic Four’ and the Oscar-nominated ‘Juno’. During this time, Gary pursued his passion for storytelling by completing several short films. His first 35mm short, ‘Pits’ featuring Tony award winner Alan Cumming, was selected by the Toronto International Film Festival to participate in the Volkswagen Canadian Short Film Showcase. It was one of only 15 short films to be selected to screen at the Hollywood Film Festival. It was also sold to the Comedy Network, Atomfilms, and Air Canada. His next film, ‘The Little Things’ starring Ioan Gruffudd, screened at festivals around the world including, Toronto, Montreal, Los Angeles, Cardiff and Manchester. It recently sold to American Film and Video for inclusion on a celebrity short film <span class="caps">DVD</span> featuring works by Steve Carrell, Gerard Butler, and James Gandolfini entitled ‘Stories USA’. Gary’s third film ‘Swap’ was funded by Bravo!<span class="caps">FACT</span> and received five Leo Award nominations in 2007, including one for Screenwriting in a Short Drama. ‘Swap’ aired on Bravo and was also purchased by Movieola. Screen International listed Gary as one of ‘Ten Short Filmmakers to watch for’ in May 2005. The Praxis Centre for Screenwriting selected his feature screenplay ‘The Woods’ for inclusion in their prestigious development program in the fall of 2008. In 2009, Gary was then hired by Cinetel Films and the SyFy Channel to write the television movie ‘Iron Golem’, which went to camera in January of 2010. He recently wrapped up the IndieGoGo success story "The Charlie Da Clown Show" which he directed and helped produce with the crazy Granger Brothers. 2011 looks to be a busy year as Gary will be shooting his "pet" project, "The Money Pet" which was awarded the Vancouver Hot Shots Screenwriting Award. He is represented by literary agents Anna Archer and Doreen Holmes of Lucas Talent.</p>
