ALESSANDRA BELLONI is an award winner singer, percussionist , dancer, actress born in Rome, Italy and is committed to preserving the rich traditions of her culture. Artistic Director / Lead Performer of "I GIULLARI DI PIAZZA, founded in 1980 artist in residence at St. John the Divine in New York City, designer of her REMO signature series Italian tambourines and author of the BOOK & DVD RHYTHM IS THE CURE published by Mel Bay , and is considered a tambourine virtuoso. She is the only artist in the world who specializes in Southern Italian tambourines combined with singing and dance that she learned from the old people in drumming festivals in Southern Italy. Selected as one of the best percussionists and recording artist in the world by DRUM!, she and has been acclaimed in The New York and Los Angeles Times, and featured in Modern Drummer and Percussive Notes. She tours extensively around the world performing and teaching in major percussion festivals, Belloni began her career in her native Rome with the great actress Anna Magnani in "La Lupa," and with legendary film director Federico Fellini in "Casanova.". Her CD "Tarantelle & Canti D’amore" released by Naxos of America on 2003 has been considered the second best percussion CD of the year by DRUM Magazine and has received many favorable reviews from major press. The CD "Tarantata: The Dance of Ancient Spider" (on the Soundstrue label) released in 2000, has received a wide critical acclaim and distribution. It was also nominated one of the best CDs of the year (2002) by Jon Parales from the New York Times and Dan Hackman from the Los Angeles Times, and won the Best World Percussion CD of the Year by DRUM Magazine. She has recently founded a Women’s percussion ensemble called DAUGHTERS OF CYBELE . She has also been featured on Television on ABC TV live in Chicago and with the National Geographic documentary SPIDER SEX with the Tarantella, as well as WORLD BEAT on CNN. featured on the PBS documentary, "LA FESTA" with The Voyage of the Black Madonna. She will be featured on Russian TV Travel Channel and a docuemntary about her as healer/artist with French filmamker Manex Ibar for PBS and BBC For the last 12 th years she has been holding her annual healing dance and percussion workshops in Tuscany, RHYTHM IS THE CURE during the last week of August.
