My name is Kyle Doohan. I’m currently an English Major at UC Berkeley. I am working on writing and directing films and hope to get an MFA in film production sometime after graduation. I’ve done many short, fun, personal movies (my favorite of which being a CGI homage to Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey). I also produced a documentary for the SRJC’s Gorilla Art Union in 2009 for the Santa Rosa Junior College’s first ever student-run art show. I interned for a time with Rotofactory in Santa Rosa which does special effects work for many notable Hollywood films such as Synecdoche, New York and The Limits of Control. Some of my favorite film directors include Ingmar Bergman, Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Paul Thomas Anderson and Lars Von Trier. I recently read Andrei Tarkovsky’s “Sculpting in Time” which, along with the works of Joseph Campbell, has completely expanded and redefined my conception of the purpose and profound possibilities of art. I believe, when crafted with great care and passion, film can be a truly beautiful medium.
