Lifelong filmmaker

I've been making films since 1985, unless you consider that I started experimenting with clay animation as far back as 1979, when my parents bought me a little super 8 camera that could do frame by frame shooting. When it was time to start college, I began studying film, television and radio. While taking a class called Intro to Video Production in '85, I became hooked. We had to create 5 videos in the semester.

All my classmates were making interviews and talking heads and (to my mind) really boring news type stuff. Of course, thats's what the class was designed for. But here is where I take a meaure of pride in being ahead of my time. I set out to start making short films, little horror spoofs and sci-fi mini-epics.

Nowadays, it is entirey commonplace, and everyone on youtube is a filmmaker. At any rate, I continued taking these type of classes, normally geared to prepare graduates for careers in the local TV news studios doing news stories for the 10 o'clock news. But I was using them to make narrative films because I couldn't afford to use real film.

After creating a number of short films (then shot on simple VHS camcorders), which I am still proud of, I finally did take some classes in 16mm film production. But after that, it was back to using video, and I got better and better at shooting in a filmic style, and getting video to look as close to film as possible.

Post-graduation, I've now made 17 short films, a few music videos, and a feature film called The Ethereal Plane). My feature has had much success in film festivals (winner at the Big MiniDV Film Festival) and foreign distribution though my (sales agent).

But enough about that movie. Since then, I made a few more shorts (like Shutting Down) and have written an ambitious ghost feature called Wandering Shadows (teaser site: here). To get the ball rolling on this project, I have decided to start out shooting a long flashback scene in the movie. What's cool about it, is that the flashback can stand alone as its own little short film. Is it this short film ("Crazy Joe") that I am attempting to fund here on Indid GoGo.

Please check out my website for more info about me and my work!
