Animator, Illustrator, Filmmaker, Friend
Oded was born in Israel in 1979. He didn’t always know he wanted to be a filmmaker, but he always used to draw comic books and doodle. In fact, his grade school teachers often scolded him for drawing during classes instead of paying attention. It took him a while and a lot of detours to get to where he is today. From studying physics and math in high school to almost signing on for a military career in the Israeli Defense Force where he served as a combat medic and an officer, it only clicked for Oded that film and animation is what he wanted to do in a much later stage in life. He graduated from Bezalel Academy of Art & Desing of Jerualem in 2006, where he studied animation, specializing in Stop-Motion. But since there is not a lot of work in Stop-Motion, Oded had to adapt and started working as a Flash Animator. He worked in Smartoonz TV and Pil Animation, doing all kind of jobs: animator, animation director, layout artist and project manager. In 2009 Oded decided to make one of his long time dreams come true, to study film in New York, and he moved to the big apple. He is currently a Film MFA candidate at Columbia University, and “When Sunny Gets Blue” is his thesis film. Oded loves drawing, playing the piano, watching TV and he is married to the most perfect human specimen there is – Liat, and is about to be a father to the cutest baby in the world.
