Katherine Kiefer Stark makes dances with her company The Naked Stark. The foundation for her work as a choreographer, dancer, and teacher stems from her belief that the world is socially constructed and that we create rather than merely discover its significances. This philosophy fuels her interest in creating work that investigates and deconstructs social norms and explores the relationship of US citizens with the political process. Stark is interested in investigating these large social and political questions through a lens of everyday experience, rather than directly addressing policy and policy makers. Stark has found the movement of people with and without dance training to be a powerful vehicle for expressing her ideas about humanity. Stark received her MFA in Choreography from UNC Greensboro and her BA in dance from Connecticut College. Recently, Stark’s work has been presented by the Goose Route Dance Festival, the Fringe Wilmington Festival, and in Philadelphia in Studio Series, Last Mondays, Ect. Series, and Inhale Performance Series.
