He has developed interest in storytelling at a young age when he grew up with his grandparents in a temple in southern Taiwan. In 2011, Guo received Domestic Film Fund of Taiwan government for his screenplay </span><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">How I Learned to Tell a Lie</span></i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">. He flew from New York back home, produced and directed the short film over the summer and fall in 2011.</span></span><span style="mso-bidi-font-size:17.0pt;font-family:Perpetua;mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;color:#242424"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></p> <p class="Body" style="margin-bottom:6.0pt;text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph"><span style="font-family:Perpetua"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">An alumnus from Berlinale Talent Campus 2009, he obtained an MFA from the Graduate Film Program in NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where he was awarded the Tisch School of the Arts Scholarships and Dalio Family Foundation Scholarship for Excellence; Haig Manoogian Award for his thesis film </span><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">Only Meal of the Day</span></i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;"> (2010). It was also selected in San Francisco and New York Asian American International Film Festivals, Film Expo Asia Bangkok, Kaohsiung and First Run Film Festivals.
