"Imperfection at its Best"

Three years ago I finally made good on a New Year's Resolution to learn guitar and to pick up singing again (something I dropped about 20 years ago when I decided it was time to buckle down and be more practical about life). My goal was to play well enough to perform for my ever encouraging Pop in my hometown of Seattle for his 80th birthday that summer. I found a great teacher in </font><a title="John Shipe" href="http://www.johnshipe.com/" target="_blank"><u><font color="#0000ff" size="3" face="Times New Roman">John Shipe</font></u></a><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman">, an Oregon based musician who was passing through San Diego at the time. I think I drove him a bit nuts in our weekly sessions because I struggled to play songs as the writer intended. To avoid that, I started writing my own thinking that this way however I played them, it was always what the writer intended.</font></p><p style="background: white;"><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman"></font> </p><p style="background: white;"><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman">Astonishingly, he was impressed and so were my friends, so impressed even that they banded together and helped me to record the six songs I'd written by summer and putting them together on a CD to give my Pop as a keepsake. It was such an extraordinary testament to how lucky I have been in life. Even more so when I had another opportunity to record my two holiday singles, <em>Dear Santa</em> and <em>By</em> <em>New Year's Day</em> and get them on iTunes as well.</font></p><p><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman"> </font></p><p style="background: white;"><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman">After his birthday, my family and friends encouraged me to launch the CD entitled <em>Boomerang</em> on iTunes to extend its reach. It also plays on </font><a title="Ali Gilmore on Jango Radio" href="http://www.jango.com/music/Ali+Gilmore?l=0" target="_blank"><u><font color="#0000ff" size="3" face="Times New Roman">jango radio</font></u></a><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman"> where I've earned over 1,000 fans worldwide.</font></p><p><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman"> </font></p><p style="background: white;"><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman">My goal is to have the rest of the now 30 something songs I’ve written professionally recorded, placing 12 of them into what I like to refer to as CD II. I've also been working hard at overcoming some wicked stage fright and hope to be able to perform all the songs live at a CD release event, recording it live for those of my fans who wouldn't be able to make it in person.</font></p><p><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman"> </font></p><p style="background: white;"><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman">I was getting pretty close to having enough saved up for the recording last summer when my luck hit a snag the size of well... a tumor. A tumor in my colon which turned out to be cancerous and had already spread to my left lung before we could remove it, dubbing me with the gorgeous title of being a singer/songwriter/guitarist with Stage IV Cancer. </font></p><p style="background: white;"><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman"></font> </p><p style="background: white;"><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman">Even with all I've been through and the wear and tear that comes from it, my voice is intact, and my heart is as determined as ever to record these sounds and lyrics that seem to have poured out of me.</font></p><p><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman"> </font></p><p style="background: white;"><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman">But, as the medical bills keep piling up so the goal date keeps getting pushed back to the point where the faithful readers of my </font><a title="Ali Gilmore's music blog" href="http://www.indiegogo.com/individuals/222698/www.aligilmoremusic.com/blog" target="_blank"><u><font color="#0000ff" size="3" face="Times New Roman">blog</font></u></a><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman"> and </font><a title="Ali Gilmore Music" href="https://www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tnmn#!/pages/Ali-Gilmore-Music/274106980603" target="_blank"><u><font color="#0000ff" size="3" face="Times New Roman">facebook</font></u></a><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman"> followers I fear are becoming as restless as myself and beginning to wonder when and if this promise of a dream will really come to fruition. </font></p><p style="background: white;"><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman">But, I don't get how I'm going to do that and make the rent/bills/insurance etc. Then, my friend Julie recommended this site.
