The idea came to Greg back in 1991 when he was working for Home Depot in Royal Palm Beach, Fl, as a lot attendant and would see how customers would load their pickup trucks with long lumber pieces and other material, that would have to protrude out the back. Being a previous truck owner, he thought why not have a tailgate that allows for the owner to put the material in the bed of the truck and still close the tailgate.
