Kobina Banning

Kobina Banning, is founder of Fusion Architecture, a non-profit organization with a mission to collaborate with young designers and non designers to critically engage in contemporary issues facing formal and informal urban environment. A Recipient of George Christensen Travel Award, Kobina graduated at the top of his class with a graduate research thesis that examined how displaced persons from other cultures can adopt architecturally into new urban settings. His passion and research throughout his professional career has been to examine how the design of architectural space can reflect a culture, a community, and an identity. <br><br>A native of Ghana, West Africa, Kobina started his architectural training at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana. He has travelled widely to various regions in Africa, Europe and South America establishing first hand perspective of global architecture, with particular interest in changes in formal and informal urban realities. Banning has been nominated for several design awards and the recipient of the Design Excellence, a graduate research in Mexico City, lead by Teddy Cruz, developing a sustainable community for the Santa Fe favelas (shanty towns), a team project that was later published in the SALA journal. He has also received recognition for his work with the refugee community in Arizona and engages in community projects in Ghana.<br> <br> Early 2011, Mr. Banning received recognition with two awards by <a href="http://aam-blueprintsofparadise.tumblr.com/Prize%20winners" target="_blank"><u><i>Blueprints of Paradise (Netherlands)</i></u></a>, an international design competition that invited African architects, artists and visionaries to share their ideas, ideals and dreams about the future of urban Africa.<br><br><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5166/5376542963_769daec688.jpg" alt="" height="333" width="500"><br>Kobina Banning donating computers, provided by ITT-Tempe campus to Weweso students.<br><br>
