Since making the decision to go on a bike ride to Washington DC, it has been a permanent thought in my mind. Just as much as the ride, I have looked forward to the training as well. This will be my first time training at this level for any sport. It will be exciting to push myself to be at optimal health in order to ride the 600 miles most efficiently and injury-free.
Training to lose weight and start the healthy living process allowed me to connect and discover many things about myself. Continuing that training and making it part of my every day life has strengthened that connection and helped me address my strengths and weaknesses. This intense 8-week training will undoubtedly provide me with an opportunity to build better discipline and time management skill. Everything from following a specific nutrition plan to planning my workouts and rides play an important part in how successful of a training i have. A successful training, obviously means putting myself in the best position to ride the 600 miles efficiently and injury-free which will allow me to truly enjoy the ride.
Going on family trips to different parts on the east coast including driving to Ithaca created a love for road trips. To see and experience something different other than what we are used to due to the daily routines, is important when it comes to mental health and overall happiness. Unfortunately, too many in our communities are unable to get away due to the need to work that poverty creates. We live in a society where the needs of the people who make this society run come second to the profits that a small few get to enjoy and pass down to their future generations. This is evident in the decisions the goverment makes. Allowing hospitals, schools, community centers to close but bailing out wall street allows us to see where the focus is.
