The Purpose of The Exercise Is Not To Defeat The Purpose Of The Exercise
The whole thing started when I wrote my first spec screenplay "Lucifer Quits," a calling-card script that was optioned three times, but never made. That sounds disappointing but realize at the time, 1995, I had dropped out of college on the sneaky suspicion that I might actually know what the hell I'm doing. Not knowing anyone from paint, I sent out a few query letters with some improvised p.r. At the end of the process, an Emmy award winning producer named Dusty Garza thought it was, in the old vernacular, "boffo."

A trip to Los Angeles and tuna fish sandwich later, my very first actual check for my work. I know I was supposed to photocopy it and frame it, but c'mon, sentiment only goes so far and it didn't bounce, what's the problem? Dusty later went on to try to cash in on the Chupacabra craze that later broke out, and I was then listed in the Hollywood Reporter as a genuine screenwriter, but that never got made as well. Didn't matter, I had proof that I, while not exactly swimming in that filthy lucre, had at least tasted of the spring, and free tuna sandwich.

At the time, I knew enough about computers and enough about movies to know that when the eventually two got together, there would be a lot of people in the room who didn't know, in the ancient vernacular, "doodly-squat" about either. My suspicions proven, many times over, I have since learned the high and dark arts of movie production, editing and directing for the sole purpose of making sure that my vision isn't left to the well-intentions and many thumbs of "the process."

I even worked in a movie theater, and tore a lot of tickets for a certain independent movie you might've heard of, "My Big Fat Greek Weeding." Given that my academic background is in sociology,I had one of those evil nerd moments of clarity where I realized, "I can do this and if I want to keep doing it, I'll do it for other people as well."

Which brings us to right now: I would like you to know that I'm really a nice guy who really enjoys making movies minus the drama and dumb [redacted] that many of you either know about, heard about, or might have experienced first hand. I have a seemingly mystic ability: a firm grasp of the obvious and an amazing propensity for working with creative people who really want to succeed at their crafts. My background in the arts stretches into visual art (photographs, especially), sound, music, film and theater and I really enjoy collaborating. Anything else, you wanna' know, just drop me a line.
