As Artistic Director of Outside Your Expectations, my aim is to explore social constructs that are put upon Black women and the ways that it can affect our mental health. Through West African’s fast pace motions, Umfundalai’s contemporary African reflective storytelling gestures, and Hip Hop’s dynamic grooves, the video installation will show the mental fight against the belief that stereotypes make you who you are and how when we take the time to heal ourselves we are healing our inner child.
