An alternative soul: Weary traveler on the search for music, words, and inspiration
<!--StartFragment--> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Verdana;color:#3F3F3F">Cole DeGenova is a pianist, vocalist, songwriter, and poet. Coming from a family of musicians he began studying piano at age four.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>By 15 he was working as a professional musician around his native Chicago, performing alongside some of the city’s jazz and blues greats such as Kurt Elling, Patricia Barber, Orbert Davis, and Jon Faddis before the age of 20.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Cole has since toured all across the country, Europe, and South America as a sideman or performing his original material, a blend of neo-soul, jazz, and rock.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>A recent Berklee College of Music graduate, Cole was also blessed to study under the tutelage of piano greats Danilo Perez and Joanne Brackeen. He has since worked with the likes of legendary producers George Massenburg, Queen producer Dave Richards, and Michael Woodrum, performed alongside Paula Cole, Meshell Ndegeocello, and opened for poet Saul Williams, J Davey, and rapper Gza.<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Verdana;color:#3F3F3F">As lead vocalist, songwriter, and keyboardist, Cole leads his own group, the raucous Cole DeGenova & The Peoples Republic, touring back and forth across the US. Their first album JUST PEOPLE AGAIN was released in summer 2009.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>It was produced by Geoffrey Nielsen with arrangement help from Meshell Ndegeocello and is a solid testament to the group’s eclectic and vibrant style. Their new album ANOTHER COUNTRY, recorded in Nashville and Chicago, is set to be released Spring 2012.</span></p> <!--EndFragment-->
