I hire people to do my stunts.

I’ve lived many lives. Go ahead, count ’em!

Worked for a lot of years in various editor positions at Essence magazine.

Co-wrote the novel Santa & Pete with historian Christopher Moore, and helped it get adapted into the 1999 CBS-TV movie starring James Earl Jones and Hume Cronyn.

Co-edited Tenderheaded: A Comb Bending Collection of Hair Stories with Hampton University professor Juliette Harris, and helped the book became a stage play along with Pam Hooks. Tenderheaded: The Musical enjoyed sold-out audiences in Philadelphia, and was also staged in New York.

In 2006, I wrote and directed, Talk Me To Death, a comedy short about rampant cell-phone use at a funeral. The film won best editing and audience awards in New Mexico’s Duke City Shootout competition.

In late 2006, I got a Women in Film/General Motors’ Emerging Filmmakers Grant. The following year, I did AFI’s Directing Workshop for Women, where I directed Stitches, a coming-of-age tale about a teen fashionista who must share a room with a girl who’s a fashion disaster.

Last year/this year: I was awarded a Professional Artists Fellowship from the Arts Council of Long Beach, celebrated my Office spec script coming in second in Scriptapalooza’s TV Writing Competition, and launched my documentary, A Store of Our Own, after being inspired by an O magazine article about Councilwoman Lea Webb’s efforts to bring a store to a Binghamton, NY community that has gone without one for 15 years.
