Monitora Andorinha was born and raised in Chicago, IL. She began capoeira in 1997 while studying at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Upon graduating in 2000, she decided to move to San Francisco to continue training capoeira under the instruction of Mestre Carlos Aceituno and Mestre Preguiça. When not training and teaching capoeira, she is a full time teacher at a residential substance abuse facility.
