Chris Maney, of Richlands, is a 2009 graduate of Swansboro High School. His dream, he said, is to be a film composer like his idol James Horner who scored the music for Titanic. He said he started playing the cello in middle school and that led to his fascination with all musical instruments. His grandfather bought him notation software so he could compose music, and that's where he discovered his passion. "I have a passion for writing music - it's what I do all day," he said. "I definitely want to go to Hollywood someday and be on the big screen - I don't want to be an actor, but I do want to help with the production process of a film and get my music out there by scoring them." In addition to wanting to direct and score "The Hollow Oak" from a script he has written, Maney hopes the endeavor will help him in his pursuit of financial aid to get into Berkley School of Music and give him additional exposure in the field through screenings at film festivals. "Writing a feature film has been practice for me, and producing 'The Hollow Oak' will help promote my music and my ability to write music for others out there who need music for their films," he said. He describes "The Hollow Oak" as a Thriller-action-romance-drama. "It's pretty much everything in one; it's very unique," Maney said. "I based it off of an old movie I did - I fell in love with the plot so I made it into a feature length film." Though he is putting his faith in God right now, Maney said he will find a way to make the film somehow. - Jacksonville Daily News
