Open Air Shakespeare NRV is dedicated to providing the community with a professional theatrical experience in outdoor venues across the New River Valley.

Hello! My name is Sarah Wylie, Founder of Open Air Shakespeare NRV. I’ve always had a deep, abiding love of theater that recently culminated in a degree in Theatre Arts and Cinema from Virginia Tech. In the year leading up to my graduation, I spent a lot of time filling out applications for internship at theaters all across the United States and even internationally. Just one problem…I love where I live! Conventional wisdom has it that if you want to make a living in theatre, you need to drop everything, pick up and move to a huge metropolitan area like New York, LA, or Chicago. It goes without saying that the arts scene is incredible in the big cities (in fact, I recently had the opportunity to perform in NYC in Bob McGrath’s Persephone), but what if you enjoy fresh air and streamside mountain strolls more than smog and pounding the pavement? As a lifelong fan of having my cake and eating it too, I’ve teamed with a group of talented and energetic local artists that are excited to bring more of the wonder of the stage to our community right here at home. What better place to start than with the timeless works of The Bard? In addition to being timeless classics that have entertained millions for centuries, Shakespeare’s plays are intentionally versatile and designed to be performed outdoors! The famous Globe Theatre in which his works were originally performed, was open to the sky. Now, we at Open Air Shakespeare NRV will be bringing this time honored tradition to life at venues across our local area.
