Volunteer Advocate for Veterans
<P> </P> <P> </P> <P> Michael “Mike” Sauls is a native of Newark, New Jersey. He attended Newark and East Orange public schools before signing up for the US Army at the age of 17. His military career spanned some 25 years as he held leadership positions from squad leader to First Sergeant.</P> <P> </P> <P> Mike specialized in the Armor Corps as a crewmember on the M-1 Abrams main battle tank in 1983. Later in his military career, he matriculated to the Signal Corps ending up as an Information Systems Chief after serving two terms as a First Sergeant in Mannheim, Germany.</P> <P> </P> <P> He retired from the Army in March of 2008 and repositioned himself as a volunteer advocate for Veterans. He met with many homeless Veterans assisting them with food, housing and assistance needs from community-based programs and the Veterans Administration hospital and regional office. He participated in several tri-jurisdictional Homeless Census count events which are community late night/early morning efforts to count the homeless men and women on the streets of Georgia.</P> <P> </P> <P> Mike's volunteer contributions to the annual Homeless Veteran Stand Down events allowed a magnitude of homeless Veterans an opportunity to receive medical assistance and registration into the VA system for possible disability benefits.</P> <P> </P> <P> A lifelong learner, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Studies from the University of Maryland University College and a Masters of Human Relations degree from the University of Oklahoma. He is currently attending Keller Graduate School of Management under the new Post 9/11 GI Bill while pursuing dual degrees in Public Administration and Project Management with a concentration in Nonprofit Management.</P> <P> </P> <P> Mike is a life member the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4706, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 91, and the Greater Atlanta Chapter of the Association of the United States Army. He is the Vice-Chairman of the DeKalb Veteran Affairs Advisory Board and a member of the Veteran Affairs Advisory Board of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Decatur, Georgia.</P> <P> </P> <P> He is the co-founder and CEO of <EM>Veterans for Veterans AmericA, Inc.,</EM> a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that develops transitional housing units for homeless Veterans. He is dedicated to the belief that Veterans represent America’s ‘greatest patriots’ and are entitled to the best healthcare, benefits and compensation our country has to offer. </P>
