When I Stand Among Activist
Khafre K. Abif is the Founder/Executive Director of Cycle for Freedom, Inc. Cycle for Freedom is a national mobilizing campaign founded in 2010. Its mission is to reduce the spread of HIV among African Americans and Latino’s by confronting the three critical issues that fuel the HIV pandemic HIV-related stigma, homophobia, and lack of education. Khafre’s professional transition into public health began with the opportunity to serve as Acting Project Director for Healthy Black Family Project (HBFP) at The Center for Minority Health (CMH), of the Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh. Khafre has been thriving with HIV for 24 years and a father of college-age young men. As a librarian, his first career Khafre was the first recipient of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA) Dr. John C. Tyson Emerging Leader Award and served as the Director of the Langston Hughes Library for the Children’s Defense Fund, Alex Haley Farm in Clinton, TN.
