Sarah Jacobson (1971–2004) was an independent filmmaker who was committed to DIY principles, feminism, and rock and roll. After her death the grant was established to support young women filmmakers “whose work embodies some of the things that Sarah stood for: a fierce DIY approach to filmmaking, a radical social critique, and a thoroughly underground sensibility.”
The grant is given yearly. We will be posting the 2010 call for entries soon and updating the page with more information.

The grant is run by Mikki Halpin. I'm stepping into the big boots of Sam Green, who has faithfully run and organized the Sarah Jacobson Grant for the past five years. Ruth Jacobson, Sarah’s mother and producing partner, is also a founder and supporter of the grant.
