Born and raised in Madagascar, Kightlinger studied politics and French at Augustana College before attending film school at Boston University. After directing the award-winning short <span style="font-style: italic;">You Don't Know Bertha Constantine</span>, Andrew went on to direct his first feature film, <span style="font-style: italic;">Dust of War</span>, a post-apocalyptic throwback to the Saturday morning serial, akin to Mad Max and Star Wars. Favorite films include <em></em><em>One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Straw Dogs ('71),</em> <span style="font-style: italic;">Aliens, Walkabout</span>, and <em>Barry Lyndon.</em>
