On a British Director scale, I'm not anywhere near Hitchcock/Nolan standards yet, but at least I'm better than Paul WS Anderson!

Well this should be the easiest thing ever, since it's writing about myself an' all, and I've lived with myself since, well birth, but it's proving not to be. So I'll start with whatever comes into my head. I'm currently listening to movie soundtracks for inspiration, and this says something. It never used to be, but film is now close to being my life, just after football (or, considering this is an American site, soccer). Whether I make it as a big-name Director or not, I will always make my own films and put in the hard graft, so hopefully the breaks will fall my way.

I think most people assume that when someone says they want to go into film making, they must want to be a Director, I know I used to, and it's actually true in my case, so I was surprised to find when I started BSc (Hons) Film Production Technology at Staffordshire University that a lot of people want to work in other departments; to be a colourist, or a focus puller, editor etc. For me though, it's always been the thought of getting your personal vision across to the audience as well as that communication with the actors, working together towards a common goal, that most excites me.

The last film that I wrote and Directed came third in Student Filmmakers Magazine Summer Shorts' competition, not bad considering it was open world-wide, with a hell of a lot of entries; the proof of which coming from the person from Israel who won and the New Yorker who came in second place. It was a zombie film that I made, and that's my thing really, mainstream films, not these niche market ones. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with them, but I just don't want to go to a small living-room sized cinema to watch a film about Llama farming when I could be in it's bigger next-door neighbour watching Inception.

Speaking of which, and to give you a better idea of my movie tastes, Inception is in my top 4, on equal footing with The Dark Knight and Shawshank Redemption, only just beaten by Fight Club to first place. Following it are Jurassic Park, Goodfellas, The Prestige, Trainspotting, Shaun of the Dead and Toy Story 3. You may notice that 3 of those are Christopher Nolan films, and that I've mentioned him in my tagline, and that would be because he is my absolute idol. The guy can do no wrong in my eyes, and this has been my opinion for years, not just recently. Memento, Following and Insomnia are all genius pieces of work, hell even his student film Doodlebug is a class above most.

Yet whilst that's who I aspire to be like in the future, my present is very much set on making horrors. I've fallen completely in love with the genre, and have spent the last year or so studying all different kinds, and it's therefore this kind of film that I want to make; looking at the likes of Craven, Burton and del Toro for inspiration.

So there you go, there's a bit about me, it reads more like a blog, which is weird as I've never written one before, but hey, I didn't see the point in trying to constrain my random thoughts.
