My love of the natural world has been with me since childhood. But it wasn't until my first expedition to Svalbard, in the High Arctic in 1992 did I start to fully appreciate how fragile our ecosystems are. It was evident, even then, that the pack ice was melting faster and the ozone layer thinning each year. My primary focus since then has been bringing people together to conserve threatened species and habitats in areas of high conservation value.
