SOUTHERN BOY - GAY FILMMAKER

I grew up in rural Alabama on a cattle farm in a small town called Falkville, Alabama. I always dreamed of becoming a filmmaker, and when I was older I made my way out to California. I apprenticed an internationally acclaimed filmmaker named Nina Menkes, directed some commercials and independent films and became not only a filmmaker but also a husband, a father, and a college professor. I am now working on a couple projects I feel truly imspired by. One of these is the feature film version of The Buried. I would like to create an environment for working on a film that is not inly filled with artistic inspiration but also educates people while we are working. I believe that this project will allow me to teach people about being a filmmaker but also educate them about gay rights and help prevent gay hates crimes in rural places. I believe in the artistic experience, and I believe it leads to true inspiration on others. Community engagement and the artistic experience are two things for which I am very passionate. My life's work has become developing new ways to create with community members and new ways to inspire others to grow and transform themselves.
