<p><strong>Gerald Casel<em> </em></strong>was born in the Philippines and raised in California.&nbsp; He received a BFA in Dance from the Juilliard School and an MFA in Performance and Choreography from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee assisted by a fellowship from the Advanced Opportunity Program.</p> <p>He has danced in the companies of Michael Clark, Stanley Love, Zvi Gotheiner, Lar Lubovitch and Stephen Petronio (1991-1998 and 2001-2005).&nbsp; He served as Petronio&rsquo;s Assistant Director and Director of Education.&nbsp; In 1997 he was honored to receive a New York Dance and Performance Award &ldquo;Bessie&rdquo; for sustained achievement.&nbsp;</p> <p>Casel has been commissioned to create original work by Barnard College, New York University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and X Factor Dance Company of Scotland. His company, GERALDCASELDANCE has been presented in New York City at Danspace Project, Dance Theater Workshop, Joyce SoHo and at The Yard (Martha&rsquo;s Vineyard), Jacob&rsquo;s Pillow, Danceworks (Milwaukee), Conduit (Portland), ODC Theater (San Francisco) and Dancebase (Edinburgh, Scotland).</p> <p>Casel has been on faculty at Sarah Lawrence College, Long Island University, Barnard College, UW-Milwaukee and most recently at NYU Tisch School of the Arts where he received the David Payne-Carter Award for Teaching Excellence. Last year he served as Professor of Contemporary Dance at Palucca Hochschule f&uuml;r Tanz Dresden. This year he is Visiting Assistant Professor at UW-Milwaukee where he teaches contemporary dance technique, improvisation and mentors MFA candidates. He was honored to receive the Dance New Work Award and for which he created <em>Mt. Hope</em>, premiering in June, 2011.&nbsp;</p> <p>The company will present <strong><em>Dwelling</em></strong>, May 17-19, 2012 in Milwaukee.</p>
