Ori Talmor

Tel Aviv, Israel

Hi there!

What can I tell you about me that is both interesting and relevant?

I am Israeli; grew up in Israel, served in the military. But I went away as soon as I could, realizing already in my early twenties that if I stay there I will only learn more of what I wanted to forget: i will learn how to be defensive, and offensive. I will learn how to survive; I will learn how to live in a sense of threat; I will learn to look the other way when human beings are oppressed in the name of security; in the name of history; in the name of pride.

So I went away.

Looked for other places to become different than what Israel entailed for me.

I got accepted to UC Berkeley and completed my BA with honorable distinction in 2009.

And still I could not come back to Israel.

I went to Cambodia- volunteered for eight months with women's organization, teaching, empowering, and learning. I worked with a none-governmental organization that promoted democratic capacities; transparency; justice.

And then it was time to come back home.

And I did.

Money ran out and I needed to support myself.

I worked as a lobbyist with the Israeli parliament for a year before I realized that the answer will not come from there.

And then I knew it was time to leave again.

An MA in Peace Studies became my new means to an end, realizing there is much for me to learn before I can become an active part of a change in my own home.

And now, on the verge of completing this process I need to make one more step towards the finish line-- and I need your help to do that.

Please see what you could do in order to be part of this process;

Of my life;

Of the lives of so many Palestinians and Israelis.

Step by step, one person at a time- we can make a difference, we can make this a better place for us to live in so maybe my younger sister doesn't feel like she needs to run away from her own home.

That maybe she feels proud to be part.

To belong.
