I was raised in Detroit, but have called Los Angeles my home since coming here to go to UCLA. My passion for African cultures and history was fed in college, majoring in anthropology and in a career as an ethnographic art dealer, specializing in African art. I served for many years on the board of the US Fund for UNICEF, both on a national and regional level. The Pilot Light Foundation was born after a trip to Uganda where I realized that I wanted a more hands on experience in initiating change.
