Richard Russell is the pen name for Rick Newton, an Alabama-based writer, photographer, and attorney. He studied Japanese, as well as Japanese history, business and art at the University of Alabama and Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakata, Japan, during the early 1980s. Following law school, he returned to Japan in 1990, to live and teach in a rural area deep within Japan’s Southern Chugoku mountain range. From 1999 - present he's traveled numerous times to Japan, India & China.
