J Lyn Thomas

New York, New York, United States

I was born in Ft. Collins, CO and grew up in Beaverton, OR where I had my first opportunity to perform in The Nutcracker. Since, my debut as a clown (I literally landed the role of a clown in the production :) ) I have been in love with the performing arts.<div><br></div><div>I went on to obtain my Bachelor's of the Arts at the University of Colorado at Boulder while studying dance at Cleo Parker Robinson Dance School. During my college years, I performed with Logo Ligi West African Dance Company, Soul Defined (an all female hip-hop dance crew), and later created my own dance company named DRAMA, where female dancers of all dance training came together to teach and learn new styles of dance.</div><div><br></div><div>After graduation, I worked in Denver, CO for 1 year as a bookkeeper (yes, dancers can count past the number 8...sometimes) at Triunity Engineering &amp; Management, Inc. Feeling it was time to take my career to the next level, I sold my belongings and moved out to New York where my dance, performance, choreography, and teaching career has blossomed.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>I am currently a consultant for several non-profit organizations (Urban Stages, YMCA, Fit4Life Kids), instruct dance at studios, public and charter schools in the NYC area, and have had the opportunity to choreograph for recorded artists like Kevin Lyttle, dance in commercials for products like Malibu Rum and Lucille Roberts Gym, on television stations like BET and Comcast, in shows and movies like Step Up 3D and as a back-up dancer for several artists such as Chris Willis, Jim Jones, and Juelz Santana.</div><div><br></div><div>Ever since I've been below 3 feet tall, its been my passion, dream, and goal to help those around me in a major way. For awhile it was to be the first woman president, but since I have been taller than 4 feet my goal is to do it through my love for the arts. And who knows...maybe one day it'll be through both :)</div>
